For those who have visited Whitby before, this lovely fishing town needs no introduction as the many facilities, history, culture, cuisine and scenery attract visitors from near and far. Whitby Abbey, the magnificent ruins overlook the town and are a notable landmark for miles around,
it has inspired generations from Saints to Dracula. Climb the 199 steps to St Mary’s church which has
recently been refurbished.
Whitby harbour, still a working port with lots to see and pleasant strolls along the harbour front & piers.
Whitby town, which is divided into East and West side, with many shops and attractions showing
Whitby’s importance as a maritime and ecclesiastical centre and its rise to prominence in the Victorian
era.
North York Moors National Park, the largest moor land in England & Wales provides some stunning scenery,
leisurely walks or demanding cycle rides.
North York Moors Railway, Britain’s most popular heritage railway, now operating on certain dates
into Whitby itself.
Esk Valley Railway, providing access to Middlesborough through probably some of the best scenery in
Britain, and allowing walkers easy access to the Moors National Park.
Heartbeat and The Royal Country, visit Aidensfield (Goathland) and the hospital (Scarborough South Bay).
